funny you should say Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is the Lonesome Crowded West of altcountry since the wilco album cover is clearly a ripoff of that album!

I must say, i hate coldplay, they are the musical equivalent of being forced to sit in cold wet clothes on a cold night. with that said i definitely agree they deserve their spot on the best albums of 2003, there was nowhere you could go without hearing the songs, and they do have that special something which makes a great album.

Correct on Son Volt PNugent. I was thinking Uncle Tupelo, but it came out Son Volt (or SUN Volt) by accident. Going off memory there... Apologies to all!

Oh and... Prolific: profusely productive or fruitful or producing offspring. Considering that my whole point of that column is that YHF sets the stage for hundreds of bands to follow, and that this is the song that really kicked off that movement, I'd say Prolific hits the nail on the head. I'd use it again. You sure YOU know what it means? ;)

Two things. One, Jeff Tweedy was in Uncle Tupelo and had nothing to do with Son Volt (note spelling) - his Uncle Tupelo bandmate Jay Farrar formed Son Volt. Two, prolific does not mean what you think it means. Sorry to be picky - I agree with YHF as the 2002 pick though!
